Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz scored first-half goals, but once again Liverpool could not hold the lead as they fell to AS Monaco at Anfield 3-2 in preseason action.
- Alisson (6/10): A couple of nice stops. Not much he could have done to stop the penalty
- Tsimikas (6/10): Put a shot just wide in the first half, but not much else.
- Van Dijk (6/10): Giving up the penalty dropped his rating.
- Ndukwe (7/10): Solid in defense. Looked similar to a younger version of a younger Van Dijk
- Frimpong (6/10): As usual, used his speed well, but was just off on his passes
- Gravenberch (5/10): Should have done better defending Monaco’s second goal.
- Szoboszlai (6/10): Solid but not spectacular
- Gakpo (6/10): Some good touches, but not enough for a higher score
- Wirtz (8/10): Solid in all aspects, including scoring a goal
- Koumas (6/10): Found himself in good spots, but lacked the finishing touch.
- Isak (8/10): Very strong game as well. Just missed a brace as Wirtz beat him to the ball for the second Liverpool goal.
Substitutes
- Mamadashvili (7/10): Good save on the initial shot on Monaco’s second goal
- Endo (6/10): Crowd favorite, solid in the back
- Ngumoha (7/10): Lively as usual off the bench
- Muñoz (5/10): Would have liked to have seen more from the lad
- McConnell (6/10): No mistakes to speak of
- Nyoni (5/10): Could have done better with his ball distribution to push the attack forward
- Chambers (7/10): Some big interventions to keep Monaco from grabbing the lead
- Kerkez (5/10): Really thought he would have done better after coming on
- Elliott (5/10): Brought on to be an offensive spark, but did not see much of that
- Ramsay (7/10): Had a big block to clear late danger
- Chiesa (4/10): Not much of an impact. Poor defending on the game-winner

There is an old adage that says that if something happens once, it’s a coincidence. If it happens again, it’s a trend. Liverpool have surrendered leads in the last two games, and that’s not what you want to see heading into the EPL season.
