Liverpool put the finishing touches on the 2025/26 season with a 1-1 draw vs Brentford. The biggest storylines were that the result sealed Champions League qualification for next season, and the club gave a proper sendoff to club legends Andy Robertson and Mohamed Salah.
Going Out On Top
Mo Salah is known for scoring goals. After all, he has 257 of them for the Reds, but with his assist to Curtis Jones today in the 58th minute. He also becomes the club’s all-time assist leader as well. Truly, the Egyptian King.
Both players were given an honour guard after the match, and Robertertson spoke to the media.
“I'm happy that me and Mo can leave the club in a position where they'll still play on the biggest stage, they'll have the biggest games next season. I really hope they can kick on."
"I cried a lot. I think more than I did in my whole life! But it's very tough to leave a place like this. Also, I cried a bit in the training ground,” Salah added. "I'm not really an emotional guy, you guys don't see that in the media that much. You always see me tough, aggressive but inside me I take it like a baby. It's very tricky. We left our youth here, sharing everything from the beginning until the end. We wouldn't even dream of what we had but we did it for this club. We put it back where it belonged."
This Felt Fimiliar
As they have done so often this season, Liverpool dominated play 24 shots to 11 and 8-2 on goal, but the result was just ok. The Champions League would be a major accomplishment for most clubs, but Arne Slot, Virgil van Dijk, and others have said that it is the bare minimum for a club like Liverpool. This season and next will be a season of transition for the Reds, but here’s hoping they can come through it stronger than before.
Familiar Faces
Speaking of familiarity, Liverpool were denied three points thanks to the brilliant play of former Red Kelleher in goal. Former defender Sepp Van den Berg also had some big moments on the back line, and former captain Jordan Henderson received a proper send-off from the Anfield crowd. It felt like a family reunion today, and that was a great way to head into the off-season.
