The Gifts Keep Coming: Reds sign rising star Cody Gakpo

Reds supporters found one more gift in their stocking this Christmas season as the club announced the of Dutch . The forward is a rising star in Word Football and burst on the scene at the World Cup where he played alongside Virgil van Dijk. On the biggest stage of all, Gakpo scored 3 goals in 5 appearances, helping the Netherlands reach the Quarterfinals.

 “I feel really good, I'm really excited to be here,” Gakpo said. “I'm looking forward to start training and start playing for this amazing club.”

Aside from his exploits while on International Duty, the Eindhoven, Netherlands native starred for his boyhood club. He scored 55 times during 159 appearances for PSV Eindhoven and was the top scorer and assist man in the Eredivisie (top Dutch league) before the  break.

Liverpool boss Jürgen Klopp is extremely excited to have Gakpo join the club and sees a lot of potential in the young striker.

“There is a lot to like about Cody,” Klopp said. “He is still only 23 years old but he already has a lot of experience. He was the captain of PSV, he was the Player of the Year in Holland last season and, as a lot of people have just seen, he also had a great World Cup with his national team. So, it is clear that he is already a really, really good player but his age also means he also has the potential to become even better.”

Although the exact details of Gakpo's contract have not been released by the club, several outlets are reporting it will be somewhere between €40 million and €50 million, lasting through June of 2028. Liverpool can confirm, however, that Gakpo will wear the #18 shirt. This is a developing story. LFC Globe will provide updates as to when Gakpo will be available to hit the pitch for the Reds.

This is a big signing for the team. Gakpo's name had been linked with several other big-name clubs including Manchester United. This move should signal to supporters that Klopp and company are pushing hard to climb the table this season along with securing a legitimate scoring threat for the future.
