Liverpool drew 2-2 with West Ham at the London Stadium in yet another setback to their Premier League title hopes.
First Half
It was a strong start from Liverpool who made quite a few changes with Mohamed Salah, Darwin Núñez, Dominick Szoboszlai, and Ibrahima Konaté dropping to the bench after their dismal performances in the 2-0 defeat to Everton.
The likes of Cody Gakpo, Luis Díaz, and Ryan Gravenberch all had positive starts to the game as their ability to ride challenges made for good play sequences in the early stages of the clash at London Stadium.
West Ham - who are physically impressive - struggled but showed signs of their quality on the counter-attacks through Michail Antonio, Mohammed Kudus, and Jarrod Bowen.
However, Liverpool went close with half-chances from Gakpo and Harvey Elliott before Díaz smashed the post with a speculative effort that almost beat Alphonse Areola.
Unfortunately for the Reds, they once again, went behind minutes before the break as Kudus' corner was met by an impressive header from Bowen which nestled in the back of Liverpool's net despite Alisson Becker getting a hand on it.
It was the Englishman's 16th league goal of the season as West Ham entered half-time filled with confidence.
Second Half
A fast start was needed for Liverpool to grab a result against West Ham and that's exactly what they did thanks to Andy Robertson's goal in the 48th minute.
He reacted quickly to Díaz's pass and finished past West Ham goalie Areola who should have done better with it given he got a hand to it. Liverpool almost doubled their lead minutes later but Ryan Gravenberch's mistimed finish got West Ham off the hook.
After an improvement in Liverpool's play, they doubled their lead, albeit in scrappy fashion, as Cody Gakpo got a shot off from Trent Alexander-Arnold's corner with the ball deflecting off Angelo Ogbonna which then hit Tomas Soucek and Areola as the goal went down as an own goal from the goalkeeper.
With Liverpool looking like they were heading towards three points, their chances of going second in the Premier League were dashed after Bowen's pin-point cross to Antonio saw the Jamaica international head it past Alisson to share the spoils with Liverpool.
LFC Globe Verdict
It was yet again a disappointing performance from Liverpool, who've seen their title chances crumble in recent weeks.
While there was an improvement in the second half, their defensive frailties were on show once again as they failed to sew up three points for the third time in four games.
Man Of The Match And What's Next?
Luis Díaz was an all-action presence throughout the goal, while he didn't get a goal, he got the assist for Robertson's goal and went close several times but was ultimately denied by the post and several good saves from Areola.
Liverpool next host Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League on Sunday (May 5) at 16:30 PM (UK time).
