Liverpool and Arsenal have already faced off with one another three times this season, but none is more important than the Premier League matchup in London today, February 4th. The Gunners are well-positioned on the table and in third place with 46 points, five points off of Liverpool’s league-leading 51.
Arsenal have a young squad and are once again challenging for a Premier League title. However, they have been knocked out of the FA Cup by Liverpool and the Carabao Cup, So it’s clear they play better in league fixtures. In the previous league meeting at Anfield, Mohomed Salah scored a first-half equalizer as the club just settled for a 1-1 draw. Rising star Bukayo Saka leads the club with 10 goals, but he is far from the only offensive weapon as Arsenal are +23 in goal difference this season.
The upcoming fixture will mark the 200th Premier League match between Arsenal and Liverpool. Only Liverpool and Everton have met more times in the top flight of English football. Here are just a few of the more interesting facts surrounding this long-standing fixture.
Darwin Núñez was injured when he had his foot stepped on vs Chelsea. Jürgen Klopp said the injury was a painful one, but that he could still play, adding that Núñez’s availability will not be known until just before the match. In related news, Wataru Endō has returned from international duty, but will not be ready to play vs the Gunners.
If you like offensive football, this is the match for you. Both teams are loaded with firepower. A big key will be whether Núñez will be available, If not, someone will have to step up and take his place. I see the Reds winning this one 4-3.
Kickoff is set for 16:30 GMT and will air on Sky Sports in the UK. Across the pond in the United States, the fixture is the “Premier League Game of Week” and will air on NBC at 11:30 AM EST (A Spanish Language broadcast is also available). American supporters can watch the action on ESPN +. Canadian viewers can stream via fuboTV.
