Match Preview: Liverpool Face Tough Test In Bayern Munich

Jacob -

Liverpool will face their toughest test of the preseason so far as they take on Bayern Munich on August 2nd at 's National Stadium. The Reds look to remain unbeaten in their preseason tuneups and face a European team from a top division for the first time this season.

Four With Four?

Liverpool have scored four goals in each of their first three preseason games. Doing so against Bayern Munich will be considerably tougher as they are one of the most successful teams in the Bundesliga and arguably Europe. They are 2-1 in the pre-season and have scored an astounding 29 goals in 3 games that includes a fixture with Manchester City. I know you can't read much into preseason outcomes, but if Liverpool can this match, it shows that they should compete for the top of the table in the EPL.

Bayern Munich is the new for Liverpool legend Sadio Mané. The striker spent 6 years at , scoring 120 goals across all competitions in 269 appearances with the Reds. Last year at Bayern, Mané scored 12 goals in 38 games. This preseason, he has one goal to his credit.

Reds' New Captain Revealed

With the departure of Jordan Henderson, Liverpool needed someone to pass the captain's armband to on a permanent basis. That player is Virgil van Dijk. With Trent Alexander-Arnold being named vice-captain. Van Dijk was worn the captain's on numerous occasions for Liverpool and he is also captain of the Dutch National team. Even so, this honour means a lot to the big defender.

“I'm captain of Holland, that was already such a huge honour, a proud moment as well,” van Dijk said. “But also to be the captain of Liverpool Football Club is something that I can't describe at this point. It's just something that makes me very proud and I will do everything in my power and what I can do to make everyone proud and happy with me and the football club.”

LFC Globe Verdict

This match will be a tough test for Liverpool no doubt, particularly the backline, but they need it to help prepare for the rigours of the upcoming Premier League season. They also need to get back on the pitch after all the changes surrounding the club the last few days. It will be fun to see Mané again even if he is not wearing a Liverpool shirt.

Where To Watch
