While this may be a strange discussion to have considering Jota's recent form, it's a plausible conversation to have.
Liverpool are no doubt blessed with an extremely talented forward line consisting of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino, Luis Díaz, Darwin Núñez, Cody Gakpo, and Jota himself.
With Firmino leaving in the summer, that leaves five forwards challenging for three places with only one of those roles under lock and key (Salah obviously).
Salah is also the only right winger of the current crop with the other four either playing on the left or centrally.
It could somewhat create tension between the strikers with one player inevitably becoming disappointed in the lack of game time.
Considering the injuries Díaz and Jota have suffered this season, Liverpool need a reliable front line which only adds to the conversations about replacements.
While Jota has scored four goals in his last two games, he seems the most likely to be replaced from the forward crop and the grand question is, should Liverpool sell Diogo Jota?
He's too valuable
Football is a fickle sport.
We forget very quickly about just how good a player is once they go through a run of bad form.
Just last season, Jota netted a career-high 15 Premier League goals and 21 goals in all competitions, as Liverpool went on to win two trophies and were awfully close to completing an unprecedented quadruple in English football.
However, after a dry run of goals at the end of the last season, the Portuguese forward had a tough start to this season after suffering an injury during the pre-season.
Despite returning in September, he suffered a calf injury a month later which ruled him out of the World Cup and until 2023.
He made his long-awaited return in February with a range of substitute appearances but in two consecutive starts against Leeds United and Nottingham Forest, he's scored four goals, equalling the tally of the likes of Antony and Jadon Sancho of Manchester United.
Liverpool need an explosive forward
Jürgen Klopp has tinkered with his team's formation as of late, switching to a back three of Andy Robertson, Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate.
The switch in strategy means Jota plays the role of a left midfielder but takes up positions in the box when Liverpool attack.
With Luis Díaz back from injury, it's only a matter of time before the Colombian takes back his spot in the starting line-up given his importance to how the team plays.
The winger's set of skills is alike to Sadio Mané and is different compared to the rest of his forward teammates.
Jota doesn't have the same pace, dynamism and dribbling ability which could hurt Liverpool in those high-leverage moments.
While I agree that Liverpool have bigger fish to fry in the transfer market, namely, bringing in a few new midfielders, do you think Liverpool could potentially replace Diogo Jota in the future?
