Reds ink Harvey Elliott to a new contract extension

Jacob -

Harvey Elliott has signed a new long-term contract with Liverpool, the club announced Thursday, August 11th. The move will keep the 19-year-old midfielder at through the 2027 season.

“It's always nice to know that I'm going to be here for many more years, which is always a great thing with it being my boyhood club and there is nothing in this world that makes me happier and more excited than this,” Elliott told Liverpoolfc.com.

Elliott, who grew up as a Reds supporter, began his professional career with Fulham in 2018. He signed with Liverpool in 2019 for £1.5 million and made 3 appearances for Liverpool that season at the age of 16. In order to get more time on the pitch, Elliott was sent on to Championship side Blackburn for the 2019-‘20 campaign, scoring 7 goals in 41 appearances.

Elliott came back to Liverpool last season and was off to a promising start, but a severe ankle injury ended his season after just six matches. He returned to the pitch for the current campaign and came off the bench in a 2-2 draw at Fulham to start the EPL season.

“Harvey got a big knock last season,  but like all of the experiences he has had so far, he used it to grow as a person and a player,” Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp said. “It was always obvious that he was a good footballer but taking the next steps was always going to be about using information and experiences to grow. This is exactly what Harvey is doing.”

Elliott's marks the fourth major contract the Reds have renewed this Summer, joining  Joe Gomez, Mohamed Salah, and , signaling to supporters Liverpool's commitment to keeping a mixture of youthful and veteran talent at Anfield for years to come.
