Arne Slot met with the media ahead of the club’s crucial match with Fulham on Saturday, April 11th. He spoke about the importance of the next few fixtures, what makes Fulham such a tough opponent, and the fans' support, even through the rough times.
Big Games Ahead
Slot acknowledged that the match with Fulham and the week ahead, which features fixtures with PSG and Everton, is the most critical of the season.
“It’s the defining moment of the season,” he said. “We’ve given ourselves not the best situation to be in, but the result in Paris kept us alive, so we’re still in that tie, and there are two massive, massive games in the league coming up as wel,l and afterwards five more and hopefully a few more in the Champions League as well. But first, the focus should be on Fulham, and that’s where the focus is on now.”
The Cottager Challenge
Fulham remain the only current EPL side that Slot has failed to win against during his nearly two years in charge of the club. The boss breaks down what makes the Cottagers so tough.
“They are having a manager that is already working a long time with them and you can also see that when you see them play,” he said. “They have a clear structure, clear identity of how they want to play. Mainly with the same players I think in the last two seasons that I’m here now and maybe even for longer, but I can’t really remember how it was three years ago.”
No Place Like Home
Liverpool have lost three straight contests on the road, and they hope for better fortunes within the friendly confines of Anfield, spurred on by what Slot says has been amazing fan support.
“I feel the support from the fans," Slot. said. "In Paris, when the players went out for the warm-up, and after the 4-0 loss [against Manchester City], the fans immediately started singing 'we love Liverpool'.I think it's fair to say we were outplayed for 90 minutes, and they were still singing and clapping for us.”
