Arne Slot mirrored the feelings of Liverpool fans as he expressed deep frustration with the Reds 1-1 draw with Burnley and did not hold back on expressing those feelings to the media at the post-match press conference.
“Not for the first time, frustrating,” he said. “They come in different fashions: sometimes it is that we are scoring a goal in extra time, so you expect to win the game and then you concede another goal in extra time. I think these games we’ve played quite a lot during the phase where we lost a few games where we were the team that created much more chances than the team we faced, but then we were losing those games. Then we started to become a team that was a bit more careful in conceding chances and that led to the fact that it made it also more difficult to create a lot and as a result of that we’ve been in a run of games where we haven’t lost.”
Slot Reacts To Fans Displeasure
Boos could be heard ringing around Anfield after the final whistle and Slot was quick to acknowledge fans’ frustrations.
“Yes, (I heard them), but in my head it wasn’t a boo, but in my head it was frustration as well. We are Liverpool and we play against Burnley – and we have to give them credit [for] how they defended, cleared balls off the line, all the things you want to see if you are a Burnley manager, players that try to do everything to prevent us from scoring – but if we, as Liverpool, are not disappointed anymore by having a draw at home against Burnley then something is completely wrong. I completely understand the frustration. I can tell you I have the same and the players definitely have the same frustration as the fans have.”
Wirtz Echos Frustrations
Even though Florian Wirtz scored a perfect 10/10 in LFC Globe’s Player Ratings,. He expressed frustration with the result as well. He says the Reds can take nothing from the result.
“Nothing – it feels like a defeat. When we had so many shots and so many on target, I think we had to score more goals. But some days are like this – you try everything but in the end it doesn't go in the goal. We only take one point but I can only say [in] the next game we go again and try to do better.”
LFC Globe Verdict
At least Slot and company were honest. They did not try to sugarcoat it by saying, “ At least we picked up a point. He knows Liverpool expects better, especially at Anfield and the fans deserve better.
