Liverpool seeking Championship loan deals for trio before extended transfer deadline

Liverpool are looking to loan youngsters Harvey Elliott, Harry Wilson and Ben Woodburn ahead of next week's extended transfer window deadline.

The international transfer window closed shut on Monday night, but the domestic-only window remains open until 16th October.

Premier League clubs can do business with sides outside the top-flight, with many looking to offload their fringe players and youngsters to Championship clubs.

Liverpool are no different as they look to trim their squad after the arrivals of new signings Kostas Tsimikas, Thiago Alcantara and Diogo Jota this summer.

The Reds currently have twelve midfielders within their ranks - despite already securing a season-long loan deal for Marko Grujic a day after the closure of the international transfer window.

The need to cut down in this department was exacerbated by Liverpool's exit from the Carabao Cup against Arsenal last week.

Jurgen Klopp had intended to continue to give his youngsters minutes in the competition. But the defeat against Arsenal now leaves some of them without the prospect of top-flight football for the next three months.

One of those is Harry Wilson, who returned to Melwood this summer after a loan spell at Bournemouth last season and featured against the Gunners.

Liverpool have been looking to offload the Welshman on a permanent deal, but a move has so far failed to materialise, with the Reds setting a price-tag of around £15million.

LFC Globe now understands Swansea City are keen to bring Wilson to the Liberty Stadium on a season-long loan deal and are in preliminary talks over a move.

Swansea manager Steve Cooper knows Wilson well from his time at Kirkby as Liverpool's youth coach between 2008 and 2013, when the youngster was coming through the club's academy.

Liverpool's preference remains for a permanent deal, but it's highly unlikely the Championship side can afford the Reds' asking price.

Another youngster who Liverpool are looking to offload is Ben Woodburn, who spent last season on loan at Oxford United.

A combination of injuries and a lack of end-product means he isn't part of Klopp's plans for the future. Like Wilson, the Reds are looking to part ways with him on a permanent basis, but that remains unlikely.

Woodburn was on the verge of a move to Sparta Rotterdam last month, but a deal fell through at the last hurdle.

But QPR, Cardiff City and Bournemouth have all made enquiries for the 20-year-old, who is keen on a move away in search of first-team football.

Along with Wilson and Woodburn, the Reds are seeking a loan move for promising youngster Harvey Elliott. Unlike the other two, Elliott unquestionably has a future at Anfield, but Klopp is keen on giving him valuable time on the pitch.

Klopp has so far nurtured the England U17 international under his guidance, but a season-long loan deal is seen as being beneficial to his development.

The 17-year-old is one of the highest-rated prospects at Melwood and is a regular fixture in first-team training after joining from Fulham last year.

No suitors have yet come in for Elliott, so it's likely he remains at Liverpool until January. Things could still change at this stage, but a loan deal for the second half of the season looks the more probable option.
