Marco Silva's side pulled one back almost immediately as failed to deal with a ball into the box, allowing Michael Keane to pounce and lift the ball over Adrian.

The early goal-scoring kept on going as the Reds made it 3-1 just after the half-hour mark. Lovren played an excellent long ball to find Origi, who controlled it with astonishing ease and slotted the ball past Pickford for the second time.

Liverpool didn't look like they were missing either Firmino or Salah as the rotated Reds looked lively and played some fantastic football. They capped the first half off with a deserved fourth goal as Mane got in on the act.

However, Everton responded just seconds before the break as an unmarked Richarlison got on the end of Bernard's cross and headed past Adrian to make it 4-2 at half-time.

The second half was much less chaotic as Liverpool looked to manage the game and make clever use of their two-goal advantage.

Mane could have scored his second with ten minutes left as he latched on to substitute 's long ball, only to finish agonisingly wide of the post from close-range.

The Senegalese had another chance minutes later as he was played clean through and rounded Pickford, only to get smothered and run out of space.

Gini Wijnaldum completed the scoring in the last minute as substitute Roberto Firmino did fantastically to elude the Blues defence and reverse the ball to the Dutchman, who made no mistake with his toe-poke finish.
