Andy Robertson on reaching record milestone and keeping above Trent Alexander-Arnold

assisted twice during Liverpool's 5-0 over on Friday night, equalling the record for most assists by a defender in a season.

The Reds went ahead in the first minute as Naby Keita pounced on an early error from the visitors. Sadio Mane and both added a brace to round off a convincing 5-0 win.

Robertson set up Mane's header in the first-half with an inch-perfect cross whilst he put the ball on a plate for Salah's second goal in the last ten minutes.

Robertson now has 11 assists in the league this season, equalling a record shared by former defenders Leighton Baines and Andy Hinchliffe.

The left-back has two games left to break the record whist fellow defender is just two assists behind after creating Salah's first goal against Huddersfield.

Asked about his assists haul, he told Sky: "Yeah, delighted. He [Alexander-Arnold] got one as well. I'm just keeping in front!

"But it's all about trying to help the team, and that's why we did it [had a competition to get the most assists], it pushes both of us.

"I think it proves it by the numbers this season. But it's friendly banter and hopefully it's stayed that way the whole way through.

"Whoever wins it now it's going to be incredible and it's good numbers from both of us."

The Scotsman also insisted that Liverpool will remain solely focused on themselves rather than think about whether will drop points in their final three games.

The Reds are next in action against in the semi-final first-leg on Wednesday before turning their attention back to the title race against Newcastle next weekend.

Liverpool are now on 91 points and move back above Man City in the table, with Pep Guardiola's side facing at Turf Moor on Sunday.
