Alisson named Goalkeeper of the Year 2019 as Reds star wins Yachine Trophy

LFC Globe -

Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson has won the first-ever Yachine Trophy at Monday night's Ballon d'Or ceremony in Paris.

The Brazilian made a £66.8 million move from Roma to Liverpool in the summer of 2018 and has quickly established himself as arguably one of the best goalkeepers in the world.

He played a crucial role in Liverpool's Champions Leauge triumph last season and won the Golden Glove after keeping 21 shut-outs as the Reds finished on 97 points.

He also led his country to the Copa America in the summer, keeping five clean sheets and conceding just once in the entire tournament.

The trophy is named after Lev Yashin, the only goalkeeper ever to have won the Ballon d'Or in history.

“It's a great honour to be here with those great players, men and women,” Alisson said.

“I just want to thank my family, my wife, who supports me everywhere I go. To my parents, they are in Brazil – I think watching me! And to God.

Whilst last season was a huge success, the 27-year-old suffered a calf injury on the opening day of this term and is yet to keep a after making his return to the side.

The Reds shot-stopper is suspended for Wednesday night's derby after being sent off for handling the ball outside of the area against Brighton on Saturday.
