Why shouldn’t Liverpool sign Conor Gallagher?

Fasika -

With Liverpool on the lookout for several midfielders for the summer, 's Conor Gallagher is one name that continually pops up.

The Englishman rose to prominence last season during his spell at Crystal Palace where he won the club's Player of the Year award for his stellar performances.

Returning to his parent club for the /23 season, it's been a disappointing season for Chelsea as a whole but individually for Gallagher too as he's failed to replicate his performances from last season.

Granted, he's at a much bigger club competing with top players in midfield, but nevertheless, it has not gone the way he would have wanted.

His lack of success at Chelsea and Liverpool's need for several midfielders have seemed to bring about rumours that he could be a target for the club.

Despite his success at Palace and his tender age, there are certainly reasons why Liverpool should not sign Conor Gallagher.

Another Jordan Henderson

No disrespect to Liverpool captain but the current version of him is no longer good enough to start for Liverpool and is arguably no longer a squad player should Liverpool sign two or more midfielders in the summer transfer window.

Henderson in his prime and Gallagher currently share similar traits, with both being extremely energetic hard workers that put in a shift on either side of the ball.

However, both lack sufficient technical ability to play for the biggest clubs in the world.

I believe Liverpool have outgrown the Hendersons of the world with signings like and the move of into the centre of the park.

Liverpool have the capacity to attract better players to the club, rather than settle for the 23-year-old.

Outrageous valuation

Any fan of the is aware of the exorbitant price tags that are placed on young English players.

Liverpool know better than most, having signed for £40 million from in 2017.

Six years later, the midfielder is expected to leave the club on a free transfer with the club not expected to recoup any sort of fee for the 29-year-old.

At 23 years old and two years left on his contract, there are rumours that Chelsea have valued Gallagher at a whopping £50 million.

Liverpool may need to take a page out of 's scouting set-up rather than fork out that amount of money.

While it's currently unknown who Liverpool will sign this summer, which midfielders would you like to see the club purchase?
