Jurgen Klopp believes his Liverpool side will need to "try everything" to get a positive outcome from this weekend's fixture with .

Liverpool return to action after Tuesday's goalless against Bayern in the , with a huge fixture against Manchester United.

The Reds are level on points with at the top of the table, having played a fixture less.

The onus is on Liverpool to regain their three-point advantage with victory at , with City facing in the League Cup final this weekend.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's appointment has seen Man United's season take an upturn, surprisingly edging out and Chelsea to fourth place, despite a poor start.

Klopp acknowledged the air of confidence surrounding United at the moment but insisted his players will "try everything" to gain victory.

"A lot," Klopp said when asked what this fixture means to him. "It's the only game we have at the weekend and it's against Manchester United. It's a big one, absolutely a big one, and we know it is a difficult one as well.

"They are in a good moment – a really good moment – they are physically strong, they defend well, they attack well.

"Against Chelsea [in the ], I saw the game and Chelsea were not as bad as everyone made them out to be after the game, but United scored in perfect moments and scored two brilliant goals.

"They are full of confidence, all that stuff, that's how they're going at the moment, that's clear. We will go there and be as good as possibly prepared and try everything to get a result there, that's the plan.

"You never know. Two strong teams will face each other and so it's open until the final whistle. We try to use that time."

The boss also provided a fitness update, ruling out and for the trip. is doing well during his integration back to training, but is still unable to make a return.

The rest of the squad are all fit to play, which will be welcome news for Klopp, who has had to deal with numerous knocks and illnesses to his players in recent weeks.

What did Solskjaer have to say?

The United interim boss says his players must keep their emotions surrounding the fixture to one side and remain focused during the game.

"I've played in a few of these myself and I know the magnitude of it for the fans, for everyone who works here, the staff," he told reporters.

"There have been many comments about, 'this is the big one' and 'we're looking forward to this one'.

"Then it's our job to be focusing and channelling all that energy into performance mode. It's not about emotions.

"I understand that emotion can be brought into it, but we have to stay focused and controlled but with some fight in us as well."

Anthony Martial and Jesse Lingard were both major doubts ahead of the game, having missed the last game due to muscle injuries.

However, the Norwegian delivered a more positive update on their fitness, with the duo both likely to be in contention for the game.

"We're looking okay," he added. “I hope Jesse will be okay. It's more hope than think. Anthony will be okay. They've got to get through these two sessions, but they have been doing some recovery work.

“Anthony's was a different muscle. We think he might be ready and hope Jesse will.”
