Virgil van Dijk warns Reds against complacency over festive period

LFC Globe -

Liverpool defender insists Liverpool must not get complacent in their hunt for the title.

Liverpool go in to this weekend's fixtures at the top of the table, however things can change quickly during the busy festive period.

Liverpool have five wins out of eight games in December so far, and can make it a sixth with victory over on Friday evening.

The Reds then face Newcastle and to round off the month, before a huge fixture against at the Etihad Stadium on January 3.

Van Dijk believes the Reds must keep their feet on the ground and focus on themselves and their immediate fixtures.

“We are in mid-December and the season is still too long,” said Van Dijk.

“We are very happy we're in the position that we're in now but that can change in two or three weeks so we won't get carried .

“We'll try to keep on doing what we're doing and, obviously, stay confident.

“It (Wolves) is another game we want to . It's going to be very tough there. They are in a great moment but so are we so we will have to prepare well and know their strengths and their weaknesses as well.”

Liverpool beat 3-1 on Sunday, despite an unfortunate error from Alisson allowing United to level the scores ahead of the break.

And van Dijk's comments on his teammate's mistake show the confidence and solidarity in the dressing room at the moment.

“I said to him ‘We have no because of you!' No, I made a joke out of it. He's been fantastic for us,” he added.

“It happens, everyone makes mistakes. Maybe I didn't react as well as maybe I could have. It happens sometimes.

“It's how we react and he did brilliantly in the second half. He didn't get nervous. We had to all bounce back and we did. I said to him, ‘Just keep going, keep your head up and we'll be fine.'”
