Match Report: Liverpool 3:1 West Ham - Liverpool make it five wins in a row in the league

Liverpool won for the fifth game on the trot in a 3-1 victory over West Ham as they rise to second in the table.

First Half

It was an eventful first half as Liverpool almost went a goal down for the fourth league game this season.

A sumptuous save from from a Tomas Soucek header kept the score level as Michail Antonio had a similar chance just minutes later but failed to convert his header on target.

Despite the early pressure from West Ham, it was the side that took the lead after good work from led to getting fouled in the box for a penalty which he dispatched with ease past Alphonse Areola.

Liverpool then grew into the game as they began to ooze swagger in their play but were stopped by West Ham after Jarrod Bowen's diving header made its way past Alisson to equalise for the side.

Liverpool looked to have made it 2-1 just before the break through but the midfielder was judged to be offside by VAR.

Second Half

The second half brought forth a tentative start from both sides but after 15 minutes, Liverpool were the ones who made a breakthrough as a brilliant pass from found the run of Darwin Núñez who volleyed it past Alphonse Areola to put the home side 2-1 up.

The dominance shown by Liverpool was breathtaking to witness as they brought on for his Premier League debut alongside and with 15 minutes to go.

The Portuguese forward showed off his goalscoring prowess just minutes after coming on as he latched onto a header to blaze it into the net to make it 3-1 for Liverpool.

The club had chances to further build on their lead in the last minutes of the game but couldn't find that final pass but they already had three points secured in a battling victory.

LFC Globe Verdict

Liverpool went ahead in the game which was a surprise by many but despite being drawn back to 1-1, their quality showed throughout the game to a deserved three points to place them ahead of in second place. 

It's now five wins in a row in the league for Liverpool who continue to look like the real deal as they aim to challenge for the Premier League title this season.

The man of the match was who just didn't stop all game from defence to attack, the chaos he caused and the control he has on the ball is a massive part of how Liverpool now operates.

While Liverpool next play in the third round of the on Wednesday (September 27) at 19:45pm (UK time), their next league game is against an impressive Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday (September 30) at 17:30pm (UK time).
