Liverpool Sign Mac Allister to 5-Year Deal

Liverpool did not wait long to make their first splash signing of the Summer. The club announced on June 8th that they have signed Argentine midfielder Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton. The 24-year-old is fresh off of a World Cup win and a solid Premier League season.

“It feels amazing. It’s a dream come true, it’s amazing to be here and I can’t wait to get started,” Mac Allister said in his introductory press conference.

Details of the contract were not released by Liverpool, but The Guardian reports it is worth £35 million over a 5-year period.

Mac Allister has garnered 20 goals in four seasons with Brighton across all competitions in 112 appearances. He also netted a goal and earned 16 caps for Argentina while on international duty. He will wear the number 10 shirt for the Reds.

“We are adding a very talented, very smart, very technically skilled boy to our squad and this is super news, really it is,” Jürgen Klopp said. “I do not think the football world needs me to say too much about Alexis’ qualities because they are already pretty well known but it is clear that he is someone who can play in a number of positions in the midfield and is an all-rounder, I would say. He is calm and composed and someone with proper game intelligence.”

LFC Globe Verdict

I like this signing. Liverpool needed to bolster their midfield after recent departures and they have certainly done that. At 24 years old, Mac Allister is just coming into the prime of his career and he will hopefully have an impact on Anfield for a long time to come.
