Liverpool started their Champions League campaign against PSG on Tuesday. Whilst they endured heartbreak against in May, they had plenty to be optimistic about ahead of the game.

The Reds - and their opponents - were both undefeated so far this season as both sides looked to make their mark on Europe's elite competition.

Jurgen Klopp kept Naby Keita on the bench in place for captain , whilst started in place for Roberto Firmino, following his injury against Spurs on Tuesday.

With the game hyped to be the match of the round, it proved to be just that as a five-goal thriller ended in Liverpool's favour.

Liverpool started the game impressively, pressing intently and attacking with rhythm with some clever incisive passes.

They targeted PSG goalkeeper Areola, following a spell of corners that highlighted his weakness. came closest to beating the stopper with a looping header, however PSG resisted conceding.

The visitors then threatened themselves, with Edinson Cavani and Neymar both going close in quick succession to giving them the lead. However, Alisson looked astute in goal for Liverpool, keeping the duo out with a double save.

Liverpool scored their opener at the half-hour mark, as 's peach of a cross was headed in by Daniel Sturridge, who impressed for much of the first-half.

Minutes later, Liverpool were awarded a penalty as PSG defender Juan Bernat tripped Reds midfielder in the area. James Milner stepped up and converted the spot-kick to put the Reds two ahead.

Minutes ahead of the interval, Thomas Meunier pulled one back to give the Parisians hope ahead of the second-half.

Liverpool dominated the ball after the break, keeping possession and dictating the tempo of the game.

Their dominance soon lead to a disallowed goal, with Salah putting the ball in the back of the net only to be chalked out for a foul on Areloa after Sturridge gambled on a deflected effort from Wijnaldum.

Sturridge could have scored his second of the night after being found unmarked in a great position in the danger area by . However, his tame header was easily caught by the keeper.

The striker was then brought off for Roberto Firmino, with 20 minutes to go and Liverpool looking at ease.

However, the Reds starting looking lethargic towards the latter stages as PSG brought on Julian Draxler and Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting. The former was involved as he picked up the ball and found Neymar, who cleverly played the ball to Mbappe to level for the visitors.

Salah, who had a difficult game, was withdrawn with just five minutes to go for as the Reds looked for a late winner.

And it was Firmino who was the man of the moment as he shimmied around PSG's defence to score a fantastic late winner, cutting across Areloa with a low drive from the right.

The Reds have now won six out of six games this season and face at Anfield on Saturday as they look to continue their impressive start.
