Liverpool 2:1 Brighton - Liverpool Squeeze Past Brighton To Return To The Top Of The League

Fasika -

First Half

It was a horrendous start for Liverpool who conceded within the first 2 minutes of the game. Danny Welbeck's well-hit strike from inside the box beat to put Liverpool on the backfoot immediately.

Luckily for Liverpool, they've won the most points from losing positions this season as they straight got to work in finding a speedy equaliser.

They kept pushing Brighton back and had a great chance with but he put his shot wide after a stunning pass from .

As Liverpool continued to probe, they earned a corner which was easily defended but Salah got his head on it which was poorly cleared by Joel Veltman as the ball landed at the feet of who instinctively stuck out his right foot and scored to put Liverpool level in the 26th minute of the game.

While Liverpool dominated much of the first half, Brighton had their moments thanks to good play from Welbeck and Simon Adingra as the teams went into the break level at 1-1.

It was more of the same in the second half as Liverpool continued to press for a goal to put them ahead but had to be careful that Brighton didn't gain an advantage on the counter-attack which is where they're extremely potent.

With Mac Allister continuing to have much of the ball alongside midfield mate Dominick Szoboszlai, the Hungarian put in a speedy ball into the Argentine who picked out Salah with a genius pass as the Egyptian finished well with his left foot to finally get his goal after numerous missed chances in the first half.

Just a few minutes later, it looked like Salah turned creator as he played in a ridiculous pass into Luis Díaz who managed to sneak the ball through the legs of the Brighton goalkeeper to put Liverpool 3-1 up.

Unfortunately, Díaz was adjudged to be offside but it wouldn't matter in the end as Liverpool would hang on for all three points and leapfrog to the top of the Premier League.

LFC Globe Verdict

It was a hard-fought contest and one Liverpool were certainly expecting, considering before the victory, had not won against Roberto De Zerbi before.

However, a victory was most important despite a less-than-impressive performance from Liverpool at Anfield.

Man Of The Match And What's Next?

Alexis Mac Allister continues to shine the brightest in the Liverpool team. The midfielder - who faced his old team Brighton - put on a stunning performance in the middle of the park in what was a quintessential showing from a midfielder.

The control and poise from the 25-year-old was sumptuous as well as the pass he played to Mohamed Salah for Liverpool's second goal.

Liverpool return to quite the busy schedule as they host at Anfield on Thursday (April 4) in a must- game at 19: 30PM (UK time).
