"In past seasons, it's been a real defining part of the season for us. We've had years where January hasn't gone so well and it's made it difficult for us at the back-end of the season," he told LFCTV.

"We know how important it is and how tough it's going to be with the amount of games in a short period of time but we're ready.

"All teams in the Premier League face the same sort of task so we just have to be ready for it and try to get as many points as we can.

"Once you've got the momentum, most of the time you just want to keep playing games because you're in a good flow and you want to keep it going.

"It's just about recovering and being in the best physical shape you can be. I think we'll be ready, we play intense football and we're a fit team so we're capable of the demand."

With a greater amount of games, the emphasis in training sessions will predominantly be on recovering between fixtures.

Gomez admits it can be hard to work around, but as long as the Reds can keep their momentum, they will stand in good stead at the end of the period.

"With the shorter training weeks, it's obviously hard to fit as much in and the intensity might be a little bit lower just after a game and two days after, so it's tough," he added.

"But the coaches and the sports science team manage us very well and we're all in top shape once we get on the pitch.

"If things are going well, it takes your mind off it but if you're losing, you might feel some more aches and pains.

"But I think regardless of it we're looking to go into it in a good place and come out of it the other and better side. It'll be tough but we're ready for it."
