Liverpool had plenty of chances early, but could not pay them off, and a poorly defended corner gave Galatasaray a 1-0 lead at halftime.

Liverpool got off to a flying start as high pressure caused multiple turnovers in the attacking third, but the Reds could not cash in for a goal. That cost them as in the 7th minute, Mario Lemina headed home a corner for a 1-0 lead.

Forian Wirtz forced a save in the 16th minute, followed by an Ibrahima Konate shot that went just high. Galatasaray responded with a pair of corners, and Mamardashvilli came up big to keep the ball out. The game remained very open, as evidenced by the high number of shots. Liverpool did earn a corner, but they could not mount a threat from it, going into the half down 1-0
