Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah has made the shortlist of 30 players for the prestigious Baloon d’Or award. The award is given annually to the best player in World Football as voted on by a panel of 100 journalists across FIFA Nations.
The vote will be based on Salah’s 2022-23 season stats. The Egyptian King scored 30 goals and dished out 16 assists in 52 appearances across all competitions last season. The winner will be announced at a special ceremony on October 30th in Paris, France.
The other 29 nominees are: Josko Gvardiol, Andre Onana, Karim Benzema, Jamal Musiala, Mohamed Salah, Jude Bellingham, Bukayo Saka, Randal Kolo Muani, Kevin De Bruyne, Bernardo Silva, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Nicolo Barella, Emiliano Martinez, Ruben Dias, Erling Haaland, Martin Odegaard, Ilkay Gundogan, Yassine Bounou, Julian Alvarez, Vinicius Junior, Rodri, Antoine Griezmann, Lionel Messi, Lautaro Martinez, Robert Lewandowski, Kim Min-jae, Luka Modric, Kylian Mbappe, Victor Osimhen, and Harry Kane.
By Mohamed Salah’s lofty standards, he had had a subpar season last year. Even so, he is being recognised as one of the Top 30 players in World Football just speaks to his greatness. I’m certainly glad he is still wearing a Liverpool shirt for now.
