Jürgen Klopp has named his starting side for tonight’s 19:45 GMT kick-off against Crystal Palace. This is the 2nd meeting of the season with the Eagles, whose first meeting with the Reds in August was a very eventful 1-1 draw.
That game was most famous for Darwin Núñez’s red card and a world-class strike from Luis Díaz with Liverpool down to 10 men. Unfortunately, Díaz won’t be available this time due to his long-term knee injury. And it seems as though Núñez isn’t available, he isn’t in the starting lineup and he isn’t on the bench either.
Unsurprisingly, Klopp has made 4 changes in the side that lost to Real Madrid on Tuesday. Joel Matip gets the start at centre-back, James Milner and Naby Keita are in at the holding midfield positions, and Diogo Jota starts up front in place of Núñez.
Guaita, Clyne, Guehi, Andersen, Mitchell, Doucoure, Lokonga, Olise, Ayew, Schlupp, Mateta
Whitworth, Ward, Richards, Hughes, Milivojevic, McArthur, Eze, Ahamada, Edouard
Alisson, Alexander-Arnold, Matip, Van Dijk, Robertson, Henderson, Milner, Keita, Jota, Salah, Gakpo
Kelleher, Fabinho, Firmino, Elliott, Jones, Tsimikas, Williams, Carvalho, Bajcetic
This week has been a very challenging week for Liverpool. The absolute destruction at the hands of Real Madrid on Tuesday night will do one of two things, it will either bring the team together or tear them apart. Selhurst Park is quite possibly the absolute last place the Reds will want to try to pick up the pieces.
Yes, Crystal Palace have been an easy win for Liverpool for much of the last ten years. However, the Eagles have a tremendous home-field advantage tonight over a Liverpool team that must still be feeling the shock of the mauling they endured earlier in the week.
We will see what Liverpool are made of in this match. And this team hasn’t shown that they are made of the stuff that is needed to recover quickly from a bad loss. I think Crystal Palace will win today, 2-1.
