In his post-match press conference, Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp gave his thoughts on his side's crucial 1-0 victory over Brentford, thanks to a first-half strike by Mohamed Salah.
The German commented on the defensive performance by his side who secured two consecutive clean sheets in a row, his thoughts on Trent Alexander-Arnold flourishing in his new midfield role, and whether he'll stay there permanently.
“Today was the best defensive performance I've ever seen in my life in terms of set-pieces,” he said to Sky.
“I saw a lot of positive things – from a focus point of view, it was extremely good, I am really happy today.”
Praising Trent Alexander-Arnold
Klopp also made sure to heap praise on Alexander-Arnold who has been on fire thanks to new his new midfield via the change of system Klopp implemented several weeks prior.
He said the new role “suits him” and added: “His position long term – that depends on the players we bring in.”
“Trent played pretty much all minutes for the last 6/7 weeks, it's a really intense period [and] it's outstanding what he is doing.”
The greatness of Mohamed Salah
It was Mohamed Salah's goal (once again) that secured all three points for Liverpool today and Klopp admitted that he “can't see him stopping” saying his goal-scoring ability is “just his nature”.
“When Mo works as a pundit in a few years, we will all know and see how good he actually was.
“People don't appreciate people enough when they are still playing - he is an all-time great.
“I know he is proud of his records today – the numbers are outrageous.”
The narrow top-four race
The manager also revealed his thoughts on the top-four race.
“Imagine [Manchester] United and Newcastle slip up and we are not there? We would really regret that.
“It's an interesting period – if Brighton win all their games, they stay above us.
“Teams behind us are coming, so we need to keep them behind us.”
Liverpool are next in action on Monday (May 15) as they face Leicester City at the King Power Stadium in what will prove to be another crucial game that Liverpool must gain all three points should they want any chance of qualifying for the UEFA Champions League next season.
