After a shock loss to Atalanta in the first leg of a Europa League tie at Anfield, Liverpool must rebound quickly as they host Crystal Palace on Sunday, April 14th at Anfield.
Liverpool’s loss to Atalanta was the first time the Reds have suffered a defeat at Anfield since February of 2023. It was also the largest-ever defeat in European competition on the home pitch at 3-0. The Reds must put that behind them quickly to keep pace in the Premier League Title race. Crystal Palace might just be the perfect opponent to take out the frustrations on as the Eagles are winless in their last five League matches.
In his pre-match press conference, Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp says he needs to see a positive reaction from the club and he is confident he will.
“Yes, we have to show a reaction. Definitely, 100 per cent, that is clear. But I cannot plan the reaction 20 minutes after the game. I will think about that. It is now not the first time in my life that I lost a football game, unfortunately. And yes, we will show a reaction, I can promise.”
Crystal Palace sit 14th on the Premier League table, just five points above the relegation zone. Jean Phillippe Mateta leads the way with 10 goals on the season. By comparison, Liverpool have five players with double-digit goals for the season. Other stats of note are that Klopp has more wins vs Palace in his Liverpool managerial career than any other current EPL club with 13 and that the Reds have not lost to the Eagles since 2017.
All the signs point to a rather comfortable Liverpool win in this match. The entire club is angry at losing by a wide margin in their last match and I think they will take out their frustrations on the struggling Eagles. However, football is unpredictable and Liverpool will have to play well and I like Klopp think they will with a 4-0 win.
Kickoff is set for 14:00 BST on Sunday, April 11th and will air on Sky Sports. In the United States, the game will start at 9:00 AM EST and supporters can watch on the USA Network. Canadian viewers can stream via fuboTV.
