Arne Slot met with the media ahead of the match with Spurs on Sunday March, 15th at Anfield. He provided injury updates on Alisson and Federico Chiesa, discussed expectations for the rest of the season, and discussed potentially making history at Anfield.

Injury Update

Federico Chies is expected to be available for selection vs Spurs after an illness kept him from travelling to Türkiye for the Galatasaray match.

"I expect he feels better now because he felt unwell the day before the game, and I think we're now three or four further ahead," said Slot. "So, I think he's able to train with us today again."

As for Allison, he has an undisclosed muscle injury, and Slot is hopeful he can return versus Spurs, but if not, certainly for the second leg against Galatasaray at Anfield.

"We are training today, as you know, so let's see if he can join the team session today.” That is something I expect, but I'm not 100 per cent sure yet because I haven't spoken to him or the medical staff this morning yet. He felt something when he passed the ball in one of his muscles. But after we checked it, it was so minor that we think it doesn't have to take very long.”

Expectations Changing?

Slot has said many times in the past that making the Champions League next season is an absolute minimum for the club. He did not say that today, however.

“What I want is that every single player gets the maximum out of every single training session and every game we are playing from now until the end of the season,” he said. “That is the aim for me and should be the aim for the players, and I am 100% sure that is the aim for the players because that is the only way to get the maximum out of what is there and what is in it for us.

"What that is exactly going to be [trophies?] is not always easy for us to say, sometimes you need a little bit of luck...margins at the level we are playing - Champions League, Premier League - are really small. We have to fight for those margins every single day to make them bigger and bigger and bigger.”

An Anfield Milestone

If the Reds can beat Spurs, it will mean 1,500 League wins for the Reds on their home pitch of Anfield. They will be the first club in EPL history to reach that mark. As Slot has said many times. Liverpool are a big club, and these kinds of things they expect.

“We hold ourselves to the highest standards, and this is another example of how successful this club has been, will be, and still is,” Slot said. “But if we reach that mark, I don't feel completely responsible for that because I wasn't there for all 1500 games.

"It is nice to be part of a club that is achieving so many special things because that means you are at a club where you can win something. That is something I want, that is something the players want. We are working every single day as hard as we can to try and achieve something. We want to win something and we are in the lucky situation that we are in a club that is able to do so, as history has shown."

LFC Globe Verdict

Slot failing to mention Champions League qualification as a goal for the rest of the season is pretty telling. Is he getting discouraged? If reports are to be believed, if Slot fails to qualify for the Champions League or win the competition this year, He will be sacked in favour of Xabi Alonso. The fact that he deflects credit for Liverpool's upcoming milestone of 1500 wins at Anfield to others.
