Liverpool Player Ratings vs Sunderland: Van Dijk and Salah Shine in Gritty Win

Mohamed Salah and Virgil Van Dijk combined for a second half goal as Liverpool became the first EPL team to beat Sunderland at the Stadium Of Light this season with a big 1-0 win.

  • Alisson (8/10): Commanded his box well in wet conditions. No spills.
  • Endō (6/10) Solid game in just his second EPL start, but had to be stretchered off after an injury.
  • Konate (7/10): Good recovery runs on Suderland counters
  • Van Dijk (8/10): Had several chances at goal and turned in Salah’s corner
  • Gakpo (7/10):  Found lots of space for good crosses
  • Robertson (6/10) Not as flash as Milos Kerkez, but put in a good shift
  • Wirtz (5/10): Hit post and then overhit a pass to Salah in a dangerous position. Mixed bag.
  • Salah (8/10): Won individual battles on the wing and an inch-perfect corner that led to the goal 
  • Mac Allister (5/10): Second Straight quiet game. A player of his calibre needs to do more
  • Ekitiké (7/10): Speed was somewhat neutralised by the wet pitch, but still produced several chances
  • Gravenberch (5/10): The forgotten man. Barely a mention

The Substitutes

  • Gomez (7/10): Stood strong in the back with Sunderland pushing for an equaliser
  • Jones (6/10): A nice run right after coming on, and had a shot
  • Chiesa (6/10): Late sub, No Impact

Man of the Match

  • Mohamed Salah - 91st career assist, tying Steven Gerrard for Liverpool’s top mark in EPL play 

The Manager

  • Arne Slot (7/10) Vanilla approach at times, once Reds had the lead, but most importantly got the 3 points
