Liverpool striker Danny Ings is set to depart Anfield with former Reds manager Rafa Benitez thought to be interested.
After two years of recovering from various injuries, Ings tentatively made a re-introduction in to the Liverpool squad last campaign.
However, game-time didn't come easy for the former Burnley striker - netting just a sole goal against West Brom late in the Premier League season.
With Roberto Firmino, Jurgen Klopp's first choice striker, alongside Daniel Sturridge and Dominic Solanke in contention for one spot, Ings has been deemed surplus to requirements, with interest from various clubs.
Despite Crystal Palace being heavily linked with the 26-year-old, former Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez is hoping the Reds will let Ings move to St. James' Park on loan.
The Northern Echo report Benitez is hoping Ings will be one of two forward arrivals this week, with the Tyneside club still in search of their first signing before the close of the transfer window on Thursday.
With Newcastle previously linked with Ings, the report says he is “back on the agenda” and interested in making a move up north.
Southampton are also interested in signing Ings, who made 14 appearances under Klopp last season. The south coast side are willing to pay a small fee with add-ons.
However Liverpool are likely to only sell for a price of around £20million, and could be receptive to a loan deal for Ings, who still has two years left on his contract.
Having moved from Burnley to Liverpool under former manager Brendan Rodgers in 2015, Ings has made just 25 appearances for the Reds, netting four times.
