Benfica were given renewed hope at the start of the second half as an error by Konate led to the ball falling at the feet of Darwin Nunez, who made no mistake from close range to halve the deficit.
Despite the Reds enduring some nervy moments, they ultimately clinched a 3-1 victory thanks to a late Diaz strike to establish their advantage of the second leg next week. All focus now turns to the Etihad this weekend...
