Adam Lallana's injury return turned into a nightmare as he was sent off for Liverpool U23s against Tottenham U23s.
Jurgen Klopp was reluctant to play the England international against Spurs on Sunday and Lallana was instead named for the clash between the two sides' youngsters.
But he was dismissed shortly after the hour mark after a late challenge from George Marsh.
Marsh climbed above Lallana to win an aerial ball but the Liverpool midfielder reacted by grabbing his opponent round the throat and the back of the head.
He was shown a straight red card for the incident and trudged straight down the tunnel.
Lallana started in a strong Liverpool line-up, alongside Danny Ings, Dominic Solanke and Ben Woodburn.
