Arne Slot provided a sobering injury update. Making just his second EPL start this season, Wataru Endō got his boot caught on a soggy pitch and suffered an injury to his lower leg and had to be stretched off in the 58th minute in a 1-0 win over Sunderland.
“Yes, it's a serious one,” Slot said “How serious, we don't know yet because it still has to be assessed tomorrow, but it doesn't look good."I'm not too sure [if it's his ankle]. It's his foot, but if it is his ankle or his foot, that is what we have to assess tomorrow. I assume he will be out for a long, long time. What is long, it is difficult to say at this moment, but you can hardly believe what this right full-back position brings us this season."
The injuries at the right back position do indeed seem unbelievable. Conor Bradley is out for the season, while Jeremie Frimpong is still weeks away from returning. Joe Gomez replaced Endō in the second half, but he is coming off an injury himself. Domonik Szboszlai is a servicible fill in, but it’s not his natural position. The only other Right Back on the roster is the young Calvin Ramsay. He has not seen any EPL minutes this season, but that could change if the injury situation does not improve.
The Right-Back Crisis: How do the Reds solve this?
With Wataru Endō facing a "long, long time" on the sidelines and Conor Bradley already out for the season, the right-back position has become a genuine emergency for Arne Slot. While Joe Gomez and Calvin Ramsay are the remaining natural options, do you think Slot should look at Dominik Szoboszlai or even Federico Chiesa as makeshift covers? Tell us how you would fix the defensive line in the comments below!
