The Egyptian King is leaving Liverpool. On March 24th, Mohamed Salah announced he was foregoing the final year of his contract with the Reds and departing Merseyside at season’s end.
“I wanted to start by saying that I never imagined how deeply this club, this city, these people would become part of my life,” Salah said via a video message to fans “Liverpool is not just a football club, it's a passion, it's a history, it's a spirit. I can't explain in words to anyone not part of this club. We celebrated victory, we won the most important trophies, and we fought together through the hardest time in our lives. I want to thank everyone who was a part of this club throughout my time here, especially the teammates, past and present.”
“And to the fans, I don't have enough words. The support you showed me through the best time of my career, and you stood by me in the toughest times. It's something I will never forget and something I will take with me always. Leaving is never easy. You gave me the best time of my life. I will always be one of you. This club will always be my home to me and to my family.
Thank you for everything. Because of all of you, I will never walk alone."
Salah’s accomplishments with the club are almost too numerous to mention. During the past nine years with the club, he is third all-time in goals scored with 255, behind Ian Rush and Roger Hunt; 189 of those goals have come in EPL play.
Salah is equally adept at sharing the ball, garnering 119 assists in all competitions. He is also tied with another club legend, Steven Gerrard, with 92 EPL assists. He has led the Reds to eight major trophies, including two Premier League titles, one Champions League, one FA Cup, two League Cups, the FIFA Club World Cup and a UEFA Super Cup.
He has been named Premier League Player of the Month on seven occasions and is a four-time Golden Boot winner
As a result of all of those qualities, Salah has been named the Football Writers Association Player Of The Year three times. All those numbers all add up to the one and only Egyptian King.
LFC Globe Verdict
I think this is the right move by both sides. Salah’s production has dipped as his role has evolved with the club. Salah is looking for a fresh start, while Arne Slot is looking to mould the Reds in his own image. I like the fact that supporters know this now, so we can mentally prepare ourselves for life without Salah at Anfield, and it also gives fans a chance to give him a proper sendoff.
