As expected, the Blackcats came out in defensive shape, and Liverpool had the majority of possession early. Both teams struggled to create chances on a wet pitch. Salah forced a yellow card on Reinildo in the 24th minute. Florian Wirtz forced a save near the half-hour mark, and then he hit the post moments later, and the Reds kept the pressure on. Virgil Van Dijk also had a shot blocked away, and Wirtz had a big chance saved. Sunderland did look dangerous on the counter. But it was the Reds with the majority of chances, so they will feel it's hard luck not to be up by a goal or two
