The teams made some good runs, but it lacked action until Alisson was forced into a save after 10 minutes. That woke up the Reds as they grabbed momentum, and Milos Kerkez had a chance in front of goal, but was caught offside.
Kerkez also drew a yellow card against Lewis Dunk, making it a battle watch as the game progresses.
The set pieces kept coming for Liverpool, and Curtis Jones just put a shot wide at the half-hour mark. Diogo Gomez was also booked in the 33rd minute, giving both Seagull Centre Backs Yellow Cards.
Cody Cakpo put the ball in the back of the net later in the half, but it was chalked off for offside. Curtis Jones gave Liverpool a deserved goal in the 42nd minute, heading home a cross from Kerkez as the Reds took a 1-0 lead at the half.
