Arne Slot's Ultimate Liverpool XI: Choosing the Best Starting Lineup When Fully Fit

Liverpool manager Arne Slot pointing and giving tactical instructions from the touchline during a Premier League match at Anfield.

It’s no secret that Liverpool have several players sidelined with serious injuries. Conor Bradley and Giovanni Leoni are out for the season, while Wataru Endo, Alexander Isak and Jeremie Frimpong are out for at least several more weeks. But injuries don't last forever, and when healthy, the Reds can put out a Starting XI to rival the best clubs in the world. This is based on Arne Slot’s current 4-2-3-1 formation.

This is the Starting XI I would send out to the Anfield pitch if I were in the tactical area.

  • GK: Alisson - He is one of the best goalies in the world and proves it daily.
  • RB: Jeremie Frimpong- Has a great motor and good feet. Likes to push forward when Liverpool need a goal. Conor Bradley is a solid choice, too, but I like the flashy youngster here.
  • CB: Ibrahima Konaté - Towering Centreback that tracks back well on runs and is also a threat on corners. Gets the nod over Joe Gomez
  • CB: Virgil Van Dijk (C) - Slot has said many times that Van Dijk is a rock on the back line. I say he is the best at his position in the world.
  • LB: Andy Robertson -  This was a tough choice. Milos Kerkez has the advantage of youth and speed, but there is no substitute for experience, so Robertson gets the start. As Robertson continues to age, the choice will flip, but for now, the Scottish captain is the first choice.
  • CM: Alexis Mac Allister - Play has dipped of late, but his body of work over the full campaign gives him the slight advantage over Curtis Jones
  • CM: Dominik Szoboszlai- Szoboszlai is so versatile, he could excel at pretty much any position, but he naturally plays more forward and gets the nod over Ryan Gravenberch for his free-kick ability.
  • RW: Mohamed Salah - Was there any question about this one? The Egyptian King will always play when available.
  • AM: Cody Gakpo - The Dutchman is a streaky scorer, but when he is in form, he can find the back of the net with the best.
  • LW: Florian Wirtz - After a slow start to the season, Wirtz has come on as of late. He and Salah are a joy to watch, marauding down the wings.
  • ST: Alexander Isak-  Hugo Ekitiké has had a bigger impact for Liverpool this season, but once Isak returns to the pitch and finds a rhythm, he gets the start. Isak is a more polished striker in front of goal, where  Ekitiké has missed a handful of simple finishes.

There you have it. But opinions among supporters are wide and varied. The squad selector is available for anyone to use. Put yourself in Arne Slot’s shoes and have some fun.
