Jürgen Klopp spoke to the media ahead of Liverpool's game against West Ham on Sunday at 14:00 pm (UK time) as the Liverpool manager touched on several topics including the form of Darwin Núñez.
It's been a promising start to the season for Liverpool who sit third in the Premier League table and have yet to lose in all competitions so far. The squad went through an entire midfield overhaul in just one summer as Klopp admitted a lot had to change after the disappointing campaign last season.
“We decided last year we needed to change a lot, but that we want to change it for good. Really excited about it and still am. We are not stable yet, a lot of things not [right yet], but a lot of things are.
Klopp is certainly right about that as Liverpool have conceded first in four games this season and while they've come back to win every single game, that sort of record isn't sustainable.
Liverpool's only win this season where they opened the scoring was in their 3-0 win against Aston Villa earlier this summer as the German coach was asked whether that game showed him how good his new-look side can really become.
“Yes that was top, it was the new Liverpool, I see this as well but that is only one glimpse of what we can be because we don't know where we'll end up. It was a really good sign that in the moment we are going in the right direction,” he said.
One positive for Liverpool this season has been Darwin Núñez. After a mixed debut season last year, a lot of pressure has been placed on the 24-year-old's shoulders to show why Liverpool spent £65million on him and while he started off the season on the bench, his incredible cameo against Newcastle when he scored two goals to get the win for the 10-man Liverpool almost reignited his career at the club.
While his finishing still isn't the best it can be, his overall play has certainly improved, an aspect of his game Klopp has been impressed with.
He said the Urguyuan is in a “really good moment” and added: “It is not important at the moment as a striker that he doesn't score. It is more important that he plays well. We understand that if he just keeps going, the goals will come.”
