Liverpool return to Champions League action on Wednesday evening as they look to clinch a new record in the competition with three points against Midtjylland.

The Reds have already booked their place in the last 16 as group-winners, but victory over the Danish Superliga side would see them reach their highest-ever points total in the competition.

Midtjylland proved to be a tricky test in the reverse fixture at Anfield back in October, but the Reds dealt with the threat as a Diogo Jota strike and Mohamed Salah penalty gave them all three points.

There’s likely to be a very different feel to the contest in Herning, with Jurgen Klopp set to rotate most of his first-team squad in what is effectively a dead-rubber.

While the result will have no effect on the composition of the group, the hope is the Reds can continue their momentum by finishing the group strongly and setting a club record in the process.

The boss confirmed during his pre-match presser that there were no returns from injury since the Reds’ win against Wolves, with several key players still out of action.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain returned to full team training, but tonight’s clash comes too soon for the midfielder. Trent Alexander-Arnold and Naby Keita could return to the starting eleven after making a comeback from injury at the weekend.

Changes are expected in most areas of the pitch, with youngsters Billy Koumetio, Rhys Williams, Leighton Clarkson and Jake Cain all in contention. The likes of Kostas Tsimikas, Divock Origi and Takumi Minamino could also make rare starts.
