5th March 2023

One of football's greatest rivalries is set to write its next chapter tomorrow afternoon in Liverpool. Anfield is the setting as Liverpool host arguably their greatest rival, Manchester United. Kick-off is at 16:30 GMT and it is a game that should not be missed.

Liverpool are in 6th in the Premier League table, while a resurgent are in 3rd. Both teams are in good form. The Reds have managed to keep a in the last 4 league matches and have won three of them. A versus United would go a long way in getting Liverpool back into the Champions League conversation for next season.

This match is the second meeting of the season, with United winning at , 2-1 in August. Matches against Manchester United always take on some extra meaning but, this one has a massive feel about it.

Liverpool had a solid midweek win in the against Wolves. The 2-0 victory at on Wednesday put the Reds on 39 points in the Premier League. Manchester also had a mid-week game but it was in the . They beat West Ham 3-1 Wednesday night at Old Trafford.

Talking Points for Today's Match

From a Liverpool perspective, the main talking point for the match is momentum. The Reds have built some really good momentum in the Premier League in the last few weeks. Probably their best run of games in the /23 Premier League season, have them back in the top 6.

It is important for Liverpool to keep that momentum going into the match with Manchester United. However, United is a very different kind of team than the last 4 Premier League opponents. Everton, Newcastle, Crystal Palace, and Wolves weren't nearly in the form that United are.

The other talking point is the eternal rivalry between Liverpool and Manchester United. It's a rivalry born of years of legendary teams clashing year in and year out, at first in the old English First Division, and then the Premier League.

They are two of the biggest and most decorated football clubs in the world. Every time these two titans of the game get together, it is important. It's an interesting rivalry in that each team has a massive derby that takes place within their own city limits but, oftentimes when they meet each other, it's a bigger game.

This is one of those games, at least for Liverpool. Taking against the Red Devils of United at this point in the season could put the European places back within their sight. Even one point could help solidify the Reds' position in the top 6.

Manchester United have been out in the wilderness for a few years. For a while, they weren't the same dominant side that they were for nearly 30 years. This year has been a rebirth for the Red Devils in a lot of ways. New manager Erik ten Hag has finally righted the ship and United are once again a formidable foe.

United seemed to hit another gear after finally giving Cristiano Ronaldo his walking papers during the break. A combination of cutting out that clubhouse cancer and ten Hag getting to implement his system with his players have them humming.

While ten Hag is the brains on the sideline, Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford have led the United resurgence on the pitch. Manchester United have been in great form and will be a handful at Anfield. They have won their last 4 matches, in 4 different competitions.

They beat in the Premier League two weeks ago and then won a thriller against in the . Then they won their first trophy since 2017 by beating Newcastle in the League Cup final last Sunday, and of course the mid-week win in the FA Cup.

LFC Globe Verdict

All the conditions are right for tomorrow's match at Anfield to be a classic. United are getting all the attention but Liverpool have quietly gotten themselves back into the top 6 in the Premier League. Both teams are winning football matches right now.

Of course, that means this specific game will end in a . I see lots of goals in the match but, ultimately I think both sides take a point. I say if you are betting on the match, take the over on expected goals, it's going to be a 3-3 .
