Monday Night Football: Reds host Everton in Merseyside Derby

Liverpool have not won in the Premier League in well over a month. They look to change that Monday evening when they host Everton at Anfield for the 242nd edition of the derby, which would end a 4-match winless streak in League play.

A Close Encounter

The Merseyside derby is the longest-running top-flight derby in English Football. Liverpool's stadium of and Evertonton's pitch are separated by just 400 meters. Liverpool leads the all-time series 97-67 with 77 draws.

“We're really looking for a performance,” Everton boss Sean Dyche said. “Last weekend, it was fantastic to get a , but I was really looking for a reaction and a performance, and I think we're still laying that down. We need to give another good performance on the back of one last week.”

Everton sit in the relegation zone in the (18th out of 20 teams) They have never been relegated since the league was restructured in 1992. Therefore, the Toffees will be desperate for against their Merseyside neighbors.

Should James Milner score in the match, he would become the oldest Liverpool player to score against Liverpool, passing Gary McAllister for the honor. Milner could also make his 200th  career start in a Reds' shirt if he is named to the Starting XI.

Injury Update

Diogo Jota will be in contention to make an appearance and possibly be in the starting lineup. He has been sidelined with an injury since October. Thiago has been ruled out of the match, however, with a hip flexor issue.

LFC Globe Verdict

Both Everton and Liverpool enter the match needing 3 points, though the Toffees are riding high after upsetting , Liverpool just needs something, anything, to go right. A win against your closest rivals would be a good start. Jürgen Klopp has only lost to Everton once during his time as Reds' boss, so history says Liverpool should get a result, but as supporters know, Liverpool have been on the wrong side of history all too often this season.
