Liverpool have made it through to the fourth round of the EFL Cup after coming back from behind to defeat Leicester City 3-1.

First Half

It was a dire first-half performance from Liverpool who for the fifth time this season, went a goal down thanks to a Kasey McAteer strike.

Kostas Tsimikas was intercepted in his half before his mistake led to Leicester's opener in the 3rd minute. Liverpool almost went level less than 10 minutes later after Jarell Quansah's strike forced a good save from Leicester's goalkeeper who parried it only to Ben Doak, but the teenager hit the woodwork from close range.

The home side continued to press forward as Cody Gakpo got to the end of a cross from Tsimikas but his header was cleared off the line by former Everton defender, Conor Coady. Liverpool have been sloppy in play with Diogo Jota disappointing on the wing.

Second Half

It must have been a hell of a half-time team talk from Liverpool boss Jürgen Klopp as his side came out swinging in the second half. Just three minutes after the break, Cody Gakpo slotted home to equalise after good play by Ryan Gravenberch who got his second assist for the club.

Liverpool brought on Darwin Núñez and Dominik Szoboszlai in the second half and the latter had the Kop rocking after his screamer from outside the box put the home side 2-1 with 20 minutes left in the game. With just minutes left in the game, Liverpool killed the tie after Jarell Quansah's pass into the box found Diogo Jota who back-heeled the ball into the net for a classy finish.

LFC Globe Verdict

While they went 1-0 down in the first three minutes, Liverpool always looked like scoring and will certainly be disappointed they only scored three considering the amount of chances they squandered.

It's yet another victory for Liverpool as they continue their winning streak and also boost their chances of winning a trophy this season.

Man Of The Match And What's Next?

The man of the match was Harvey Elliot as he was non-stop during the game and gave his all until the last second of the game. He'll be annoyed with himself after missing an easy chance in the last embers of the game but he should be proud of his performance.

Liverpool next play an impressive Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League on Saturday (September 30) at 17:30pm (UK time).
