Match Preview: Reds Look For Continued Success vs Wolves

Jacob
4th February 2023

Liverpool will finally get to face Wolves in EPL play Saturday, February 4th after drawing with them and advancing past them in the FA Cup. Now a big are on the line as the sides square off at Molineux Stadium.

Middle Of The Pack

Liverpool sit dead centre of the 20-team EPL Table with 29 points, Four teams are within two points of one another, so there will be a lot of movement either way. A win could see the Reds jump to 7th or fall all the way to 11th, so getting the 3 points would be massive.

Big Bad Wolves?

Like Liverpool, the are struggling but the Reds have not lost to them since January 2019. Wolverhampton has also had trouble scoring, finding the back of the net just 12 times in 20 League games (-18 goal difference). Portuguese striker Daniel Podence leads with 5 goals on the campaign, but they can be dangerous, particularly on their pitch. In spite of their lacklustre stats, Wolverhampton could very well spring an upset if Liverpool is not at their best.

The Emergence Of Elliott

Harvey Elliott has come on strong of late, scoring in 2 out of the last 3 matches, including the winner against Wolves in their FA Cup Replay. This strong play has earned him a starting spot in Jürgen Klopp's lineup over the last few matches and I expect that streak to continue.

Mo The Magnificent

If Mohomed Salah makes an appearance vs Wolves, it will mark his 200th EPL match played in a Liverpool shirt. Should he score, Salah would Gordon Hodgson's record of 126 goals scored in 200 games played for Liverpool.

“It's like strikers are, all of them - when it's going well, it's going well. In the other moments, when you have to go through these periods, I don't think it is a massive difference,” Klopp said. “That's it and no problem with him scoring or breaking that record. It is a record to be broken. Mo broke a lot and hopefully he can do that with this as well."

 Konaté Ruled Out

Ibrahima Konaté has been ruled out of the match due to a muscle injury he suffered vs. Brighton. Kloop does not think the knock is too serious but wants to play things safe. So there will be at least one change in the Starting XI.

LFC Globe Verdict

Liverpool need a badly and Wolverhampton may be the perfect opponent to get it against. Even though both clubs have struggled, Liverpool have been able to find the back of the net with regularity. Nothing has come easy this season though and the Reds will have to work for it, but I think they win 2-0 and it would not surprise me if Salah or Elliott scored one of them.
