It's been a truly exceptional campaign for Jurgen Klopp's side, who had kept their hopes of an unprecedented quadruple alive until the last day of the Premier League season, but they ultimately fell short by a point despite a dramatic finish.

A cup treble still remains a distinct possibility but the Reds will need to pass the challenge of Carlo Ancelotti's pedigreed Real Madrid side if they are to clinch a seventh European Cup, which would also be their second in four seasons.

Liverpool will not be short of motivation given the events between the two sides in the Champions League final back in 2018, with the Reds succumbing in painful fashion at the last hurdle in Kyiv against a Real side led by Zinedine Zidane.

Klopp's side have undoubtedly evolved since that night and they are now a different proposition altogether, but Real Madrid have shown several times in this year's competition that they don't need to be the superior side in order to ultimately come out on top against all odds.

However, there is genuine hope and excitement that Liverpool can cap off their season - which has spanned a gruelling 63 games across eight months - with a historic night in the club's history as they look to bring Old Big Ears back home.

Liverpool were sweating on the fitness of Fabinho and Thiago, with the latter particularly a cause of concern after coming off at half-time on the final day against Wolves, but the duo both trained as normal and should be in contention for a starting berth.

Whilst much of the team picks itself, Klopp will need to decide who partners Virgil van Dijk at centre-back, with both Joel Matip and Ibrahima Konate having a case for why they should be given the nod in the starting eleven.

Elsewhere, it's hard to look past starts for Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane in attack, with Diogo Jota, Luis Diaz and Roberto Firmino all vying for the final spot in the front three. Diaz, given his recent form, is most likely to start from the off.
