Following Liverpool's disappointing 1-0 defeat to Napoli in the Champions League on Wednesday, Jurgen Klopp's side have the chance to put things right before heading into the international break.
However, Guardiola's City side will be a huge test for the Reds and we shall know a lot more about their temperament come the end of play on Sunday.
City, who sensationally won the Premier League at a canter last season, sit in first place in the table with 19 points, matched only by the Reds.

Klopp's side hold the advantage over City, however. They have won their last five meetings at Anfield, including a 4-3 win in the Premier League and 3-0 win in the Champions League quarter-final first-leg in April.
Guardiola will be hoping that his side can continue their impressive start to the season by seeking revenge for the Reds' dominance over them last season.
With both managers suggesting ahead of the fixture that they have no reason to alter their usual attacking philosophies, the 90 minutes ahead promise to be both as intriguing and exciting as last season's meetings.
Team News
Liverpool are still without long-term absentees Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Rhian Brewster, however midfielder Adam Lallana is back in full training.
Naby Keita, who suffered a back injury against Napoli in midweek, trained at Melwood on Friday and Saturday, but is unlikely to be given a starting role in midfield.
Klopp is much more likely to stick with his trusted trio of Jordan Henderson, James Milner and Gini Wijnaldum in midfield as he looks to disrupt City's possession.

Rumours circulating ahead of the clash claim Dejan Lovren could return to the starting eleven. However, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Joe Gomez, Virgil van Dijk and Andy Robertson are otherwise expected to start in defence.
The attacking trio of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino that tormented City last season have not yet clicked at the start of this campaign, however they are expected to start with Daniel Sturridge and Xherdan Shaqiri lying in wait.
Meanwhile, City are without Fabian Delph and Claudio Bravo, whilst Ilkay Gundogan is a doubt. Benjamin Mendy and Keven De Bruyne are in contention having recovered from respective injuries and trained on Friday.
