Expect Andoni Iraola to shuffle the lineup a bit vs. Fulham. This is the second match in a week, and the boss does not want too many minutes in players’ legs this early in the season. Since Cody Gakpo is officially listed as doubtful, expect Bradley Barcola to start on the left wing and Victor Muñoz to come in on the right side. Expect Ryan Gravenberch to come in the midfield and Jeremie Frimpong to replace Ronald Araújo on the backline.
The Explanation
These are mostly like-for-like swaps, not because anyone is playing poorly, just simply load management. You can't expect a manager to trot out the same Starting XI for an entire season, and Liverpool will not face much, if any, drop-off with these changes.
Other Possibilities
Wataru Endō would also be a strong choice for the back line as well. He is fresh, having not played in the Champions League midweek, and you could also see Joe Gomez come off the bench. If Liverpool jump out to a big lead, you will likely see Lewis Koumas, Trey Nyoni, and other young players see extended minutes in the second half.
LFC Globe Verdict
Liverpool is actually in a good position here. They are deep and talented enough to rotate out several key players and still have enough depth and talent to beat Fulham. The Reds may not be able to do so against EPL teams higher up the table, so take advantage of it when you can.
