Liverpool are at the top of the Premier League table and they hope to stay there with a win vs rival Manchester United on December 17th. The Reds saw their overall unbeaten streak snapped last time out in the Europa League Group Stage, but it did not affect the standings as Liverpool had already advanced to the knockout rounds of the competition
Anytime Liverpool and rival Manchester United meet, you never know what will happen. Normally the matches are highly competitive, but last season the Reds claimed a resounding 7-0 win at Anfield. Jürgen Klopp also added that the team is playing well but there are no easy games in the Premier League.
“The 7-0 we knew on the day was a freakish result that happens once in life pretty much,” he said. “I knew at the beginning [of the season] we have a really good football team. Tell me one Premier League squad who is not good, that is just existing. Especially if you fight for the top four, they are all outstanding so that's what you have to be.”
More Fans In The Stands
Anfield is set to welcome 57,000 supporters to the match as the Anfield Road upper tier will be mostly open. It is expected to be the biggest crowd to watch a match at Anfield since 1973 when a Bill Shankly-led Reds squad battled Leicester City to a scoreless draw.
Facts & Figures
Manchester United sit at 6th on the table and have had trouble scoring goals all season. They only have 18 goals in 16 matches played and are -3 on goal difference. By comparison, Liverpool have scored 36 goals in the year. The fact that United have 9 wins means they have a stout defense that Liverpool will have to solve to earn 3 points. Scottish International Scott McTominay leads United with 6 goals on the season.
LFC Globe Verdict
This game will not be a 7-0 blowout by either side. Manchester United have too good of a defense and Liverpool are playing solid football right now. The key will be whether the Reds can score early to keep the record Anfield crowd at full throat. Even, though it will be a difficult game for Liverpool, they will survive and take the 1-0 victory.
