Liverpool Look For Luck In Saint Patrick’s Day Tie With United

Manchester United V Liverpool Fc Premier League

Premier League rivals Liverpool and Manchester United meet in the 5th Round of the FA Cup on Saint Patrick’s Day (March 17th) at Old Trafford. A win would be the 300th of Jürgen Klopp’s Liverpool career and take the boss one step closer to lifting another trophy in his Liverpool swansong.

Quotable Klopp

It doesn’t matter the competition, fans of both teams always look forward to Liverpool and Manchester United meeting on the pitch. Klopp is also looking forward to the match-up, but he is not necessarily looking forward to facing the talent that United can trot out on the pitch.

“I am looking forward to it, though I’m not sure that’s exactly what you call enjoyment. But I’m looking forward to it. It’s a good thing,” he said. “ask me after the game if I enjoyed it. But before the game, it’s just work and we try to be as good prepared as somehow possible.”

300 & Other Facts

As mentioned above, Klopp has a chance to win his 300th game as the Liverpool boss, but there are plenty of noteworthy numbers to look at ahead of the match. If the Reds score it will be their 450th goal away from Anfield under Klopp. Liverpool are unbeaten in their last six matches on Saint Patrick’s Day dating back to 1992 and finally, the last two times Liverpool have beaten United in the FA Cup (2006 and 2012), they have gone on to lift the trophy.

What To Make Of Manchester United?

United have struggled this season by their standards as they already have 11 losses on the complain and sit 17 points behind Liverpool on the table. To put that in perspective, United only had nine losses all of last year. The teams battled to a scoreless draw back in December at Anfield, one of the few times Liverpool have dropped points at home in recent years. So it is clear anything can happen in this fixture.

LFC Globe Verdict

Liverpool have been in good form all season, but one of the matches in which they did not play very well was United at home. The Reds’ rivals would love nothing better than to spoil the chances of Klopp lifting another Cup. Liverpool are expected to get Ryan Gravenberch back from injury and Bobby Clark has been cleared to play after picking up a knock in the last match. This should be a fun one with Liverpool picking up a 1-0 win thanks to a late goal.
