All the best photos from Liverpool’s 1-0 victory over Ajax in their first Champions League fixture of the campaign.
The Reds needed to get back on track after two defeats and a draw in their last three games, with news of Virgil van Dijk’s injury further dampening spirits at Anfield.
Despite a cagey opening to the game, the Reds went ahead ten minutes before half time as Sadio Mane’s shot deflected off Nicolas Tagliafico and into the back of the net.
The hosts provided stiff competition as they threatened to respond. Davy Klaassen and Dusan Tadic, in particular, came closest for Erik ten Hag’s side, but they couldn’t muster up a leveller.
Jurgen Klopp withdrew his usual front three after an hour, with Diogo Jota, Takumi Minamino and Xherdan Shaqiri all coming on and impressing as they helped guide the Reds to victory.
The result leaves Liverpool second in Group D after the first matchday, with Atalanta beating Midtjylland 4-0 in the other group fixture of the night.
