Liverpool bowed out of the Champions League with their first defeat in Europe since 2014 - and their first defeat at in 44 games - as Diego Simeone's side stunned the Reds on Wednesday night.

The Reds, looking to overturn a 1-0 deficit from the first leg, took the lead on the night and levelled the through , just moments before half-time.

Despite Jurgen Klopp's side dominating possession and creating a plethora of chances in the second half, Atletico forced the game to extra-time.

ended his Anfield drought after good work from Wijnaldum to put Liverpool in the driving seat, but Atletico struck back less than three minutes later through substitute Marcos Llorente.

With just seconds remaining in the first period of extra-time, Llorente popped up once more as his shot from the edge of the area sailed past Adrian in goal, leaving Liverpool to score two more goals to remain in the competition.

The Reds failed to build any momentum in the final fifteen minutes and eventually fell 3-2 behind on the night, and 4-2 on aggregate, as Alvaro Morata sealed the game for the La Liga side in the final seconds to advance to the quarter-finals.
